Book delivered promptly and in good condition.The real strength of this book is its account of the earliest days of the Israeli Air Force. But there are a lot of weaknesses once you get to the 1970's and beyond - there's a lot that I wanted to know more about that is barely mentioned. But of all the books I've seen on this topic, this is definitely one of the best and is worth buyingMost inspiring little-known true story of the creation of a mighty force at a desperate time. If not for France & Czechoslovakia, these brave people would have been overwhelmed while Britain and the US. sat on their hands. Couldn't put it down, most amazing was the U.S. volunteers who broke the law to support the Jewish people. Reminded me of the Abraham Lincoln brigade and the brave men of that generation who also knew to do right at the risk of their lives and personal freedom.Just returned from two weeks in Israel and this story, this book, has brought more of the recent history into focus than anything, other than the Holocaust Museum, that I have read in The New York Times or The Economist over the past 20 years.From one of my favorite investigative journalists...this book doesn't disappoint. If you root for the underdog and are fascinated with non-fiction, it doesn't get much better. You may read it in one sitting. I missed by a year, or so, of meeting Ehud, but did get a chance to meet and spend time with his widow, Shoshi.The author has documented a very interesting part of Israels military history.Great seller -- book in perfect condition. The book itself is well-researched and documented, but kind of depressing...If you want to understand what is happening today in the middle east, this is a must read. History repeats its self and you will relive it as if you are actually there plus gaining an understanding of watching history in the making. The heroes behind the building and defense of Israel comes to life in this accurate and personalized account by Ehud Yonay.Exiting story, well written, facinatingWithout a doubt the best book I have ever read on the birth and struggle, setbacks, seemingly impossible challenges, foreign intervention, embargos etc. When you read this book you will see how prominent a role the Israeli Air Force has played in securing the existence and survival of Israel throughout all of her wars with her Arab enemies, all of whom want to eliminate her.
