BENJAMIN - A True Original
The external and internal build quality of these guns will blow you away and it appears to be fairly consistent these days (it's now Dec 2016). I can't believe it's a Crosman / Benjamin product. These are a FAR cry from the Crosman 760 I grew up with. Think of this gun as the Ruger 10/22 of airguns. They are simple but effective, very easy to work on, very well supported by aftermarket, and the low price will encourage you to get in there and tinker! But it's not a gun that will be a money pit either, meaning you have to replace 1/2 the gun to make it work satisfactorily. They will shoot well right out of the box, and even better with tinkering. Everything that's there is good stuff! Once tuned, these guns can perform as well as any European airgun up to $2500, which is why they are so popular in this country. Just amazing!! Pick the right caliber for your purposes and you can make it into anything you want. For Field Target competition use, choose the .177 caliber version. You'll want to add a HuMa regulator for $120 and maybe a WAR hammer spring debouncer (currently call the TSS but they've been through some iterations under other names) for another $70. But that's it. The rest is turning screws to adjust settings. Some people also find the need to polish the throat and recrown the barrel, but many people do not replace the barrel. They just improve the stock barrel. If you are so inclined, there are Walther barrels available from aftermarket suppliers for about $100. For hunting, choose the .22 caliber or .25 caliber version. I will say that for the price of .25 cal pellets, I'd personally prefer to shoot .22 lr, but that's just my opinion. Let's just say the price is close and leave it up to you. There is plenty of tuning information at marauderairrifle.com and gatewaytoairguns.com. Read up, pick your caliber, and tune away!
