Only the pressure side of the assembly was sealed, the vacuum side was not. The pressure side connector worked, the vacuum side did not. Since I purchased it to use as a vacuum, I disassembled the pump and added RTV sealant to the vacuum side of the chamber. This worked. It now works as expected as a vacuum, but if I buy more, I'll look for another design to avoid having to do this.
