This deflector is exactly what I've needed for years! I live in an apartment and have central heat and air that blows air directly onto some plants in the corners of my rooms that I don't want to move for aesthetic reasons, and they dry out and die quickly. I finally searched Amazon for a solution and found these, but I was skeptical that they'd work on my painted metal ceiling vents, but they do!I've had them installed by the plants for about 2 weeks and they already look healthier. These are easy to install, just widen them close to the width of your vent, safely climb a ladder and they latch on really well but are also somewhat easy to adjust. The magnets felt like they were a bit loose, but they've held up great while using the air at night for the full 2 weeks. I decided to get one for my bedroom since the vent blows air directly onto me, and I've been sleeping much better for the few nights it's been installed.It may not work well if you have a lot of paint on your metal vents, but for thin coats the magnets hold quite well. I also like the clarity of the plastic, they are not visually intrusive and after a week I almost forgot they were there!I also like the fact that I can take them with me should I move again.I would highly recommend this item!Having purchased an expensive and beautiful curtain for my bedroom sliding glass doors, I found all of my a/c and heat being deflected up under it rather than into the room. This little item stopped that. The order was delivered to me within two days. I opened it, slipped the two pieces together and set it on my metal vent in the floor. That quickly, my problem was solved. The heat and air are deflected into the room and makes my bedroom very comfy! The deflector is made of clear plastic that is thick enough to be quite sturdy. When I vacuumed, it did not move from its place because of the magnets that hold it fast on either end. Because it is clear, it does no distract from my new curtain. In short, it is the perfect solution. I can see where putting this under a desk or table would be beneficial as well. The air would be directed into the room. Would work perfectly under a Christmas Tree that was near a vent!These things work great! The rooms they were placed in are much warmer with the air being deflected away from the walls. Would be 5 stars if they stayed together a little better. The magnets are strong enough to lift the entire vent out of the floor....so they stay in place, but the spot where they meet and slide for length adjustment comes apart easily and doesn't want to stay together very well. Once you get that part in place, they do their job perfectly. I'm sure it's saving me $$ because I'm not turning up the thermostat to try to warm the rooms.The magnet is weaker than I thought it would be, but it stays put. I'm not sure it's really doing much to direct the heat to be honest.----------------Update 11/4/2016It turns out that part of the issue is that this device is really made of two molded parts. Since I had to spread the two parts out pretty wide for my 15" wall vent, they barely held together in the middle which made them a bit wobbly (and were susceptible to falling since the magnets weren't planted securely). Solution -- tape up the center with clear packing tape. Everything seems much sturdier now and the magnets are holding fine.I'm back to order my third one of these. They work great to redirect the air flow from our ceiling vents! When we moved our son's room around the vent was hitting his crib straight on, and this fixed the situation perfectly. Then a vent in our baby's room was hitting my nursing chair, and we bought another! Now we need one for our master bedroom. So glad for the easy fix. The trick is just to seat the magnets well in good spots (solidly against metal) when you install so they have a good hold. And they'll stay!Beware, these are really for central air and not for those of us who have a single wall unit like 'Cadet' or 'King'. Near as I can tell because those units have to work harder to heat the whole room, these things will melt. I gave it two stars because facing the vent up SEEMS to keep it from melting. This is the second item of this type that I bought and the other one melted completely overnight. I turned this one up after it started to melt. The moral of this story is, "if you have a wall unit, this thing will probably melt regardless of brand and claimed heat tolerance". I'm no engineer, but I'm not sure why it's important to have clear plastic so you can see the invisible air coming from the vent; it seems like ceramic coated aluminum or something may be a better choice of material.It's great & adheres to the ceiling vent well. It's easy to adjust & the magnets are strong. I gave it 4 stars since this is basically the same as the 2-pack I bought for the same price. The plastic may be a tad thicker, but I didn't think it worth paying double.Well, I have been using this for two months now. There is no way to attach it to the vent or floor so it does get bumped and moved quite often. If it would stay where I wanted it this would be so much better. I wouldn't buy it again. Most of the time it gets bumped out of place and it doesn't do anything that way. It's really just a cheap plastic thing. It's not durable. I would imagine if you dropped something on it or stepped on it that it would break pretty easily.
