Tilly and Torg - Up In The Air by Connie Goyette Crawley is a beautifully illustrated and humorous chapter book for children ages 4-10. I read this book to my son, and he loved it because he has some anxiety about an upcoming airplane trip. He has asked me to read it again, so I know it’s a hit with him!The book begins with Tilly and Torg receiving an invitation to a party at Auntie Glo’s house. To attend the party the two monsters must fly in an airplane. They make their way through the airport and manage to land safely, arriving at Auntie Glo’s in time for the party! This is quite an adventure for the two monsters, and they have fun at the party, play and mingle with their relatives, and go to the beach. In the end, they had to say “goodbye” and return home. They had a wonderful time, and they look forward to planning their next adventure.Tilly and Torg are quite a pair, and I love how Torg guides and reassures Tilly throughout the trip. There were reminders about manners and good behavior throughout this story. I enjoyed the characters’ dialogue and the lessons taught in this book; my son really “got” the messages presented in this story. I most appreciate the “Power Words,” “Word Wall,” and “Book Quiz” at the end of this book – super helpful as I reviewed terms with my son, and I was able to measure his comprehension of the story and further engage him. I highly recommend this book for parents to read aloud, and for beginning readers.
