The check valves will protect you air pump by preventing aquarium water from back siphoning during a power outage when you place your air pump below the aquarium water level. Great to use in freshwater, saltwater tanks and small hydroponic setups. Or you need to add a check value (the blue valve) between air pump and air stone to prevent back siphoning. 4. Plug the pump in. Remember to create a "drip loop" for the power cord.

Love this little pump. Both sides work great but I only need one. It IS a bit loud but I don’t run it 24/7 so it’s not TOO bothersome. I really love the air flow knob that lets you control how much air comes through the pump because my betta doesn’t like it when the pump creates too much water disturbance.
