This appeared to be exact replacement for a Harbor Freight oil-less McGraw small air compressor. Since the part was identical we actually just took the seal and spring out and put in in the old one. The seal appears to be silicone rubber. This compressor is plumbed to 3 buildings to keep air available 24/7. Buying 2 looks like a good idea since this part gets hot and gets no oil so it wore out to the point of leaking in only 2 years. The early warning was that for about 2 months sometimes the compressor just kept hissing instead of hissing for about 3 seconds when it shut off. When it completely fails the compressor tries to start against full tank pressure and the thermal overload stops the motor.
